Another buyer mentions that it’s easy to adjust the portable backdrop stand and that it’s perfect for light-weight backdrops. He highly recommends it as one of the best background stands available. However, a couple of users have noted that the product is flimsy and breaks because the plastic is of poor quality. Some also complain that they received a damaged unit.

Vinyl backdrops are thick, rolled and durable, and are recommended for professional studio work. They generally come in solids, but there are a few with printed patterns that can be very inexpensive. While most vinyl backgrounds have a glossy sheen, there are some (including a recently announced line by Savage, which includes the Savage Matte Finish Gray Infinity Series vinyl background) that have a matte finish to eliminate glare and reflections.

The paper is awesome and thick and great for a photography backdrop. The problem I had with it was no statement letting me know that you cannot use it on a regular stand or the paper will unwind uncontrollably and end up in a crinkled mess on the floor. Half of my roll spun out onto the floor as soon as I tried pulling a little bit out to do a session. Thankfully I was preparing for the session about 15 minutes before the appointment time and I was able to wind it up, cut off the creased parts and rig up something with some painters tape to temporarily keep it in place. Made from styrene, a wrinkle-free plastic, this versatile backdrop can be used as a light table, prop setup or a seamless background. Props or people on the other side of the backdrop are seen as shapes and eerie silhouettes. Placed in front of a light, it delivers a frosted glass effect. You can cut Translum with scissors, so you can whittle down a roll into any shape you desire. It’s available in three grades: lightweight, for a soft light effect with a 3/4-stop light loss, medium grade that eliminates most of the shadows and delivers a 1.5-stop light loss and a heavy grade that knocks back two stops of light (this grade is recommended for shooting tables and is cleanable). Medium and lightweight grades are sold in 60-inch x 18-foot rolls while the heavyweight grade is available in 54-inch x 18-foot rolls.
Users love the price and the quality of the product, but some do note that it’s too light for their liking. The Linco T-shaped backdrop stand features a sturdy design, a set of crossbars, and clamps to keep the fabric in place. Another great thing about this product is that it’s light – just four lbs., and you don’t need any special skills to assemble it. What’s more, you can adjust it from 2.6 ft. to 6.7 ft. 

It may be our summer issue but winter isn’t all that far off (sorry), and with White House Custom Color’s Through the Woods backdrop, you can put your subjects in a Robert Frost-esque scene without the frostbite. Like the other backdrops in WHCC’s collection, this one is made of wrinkle-free, 100 percent polyester fabric. It’s sold in either 10 x 8-feet or 6 x 8-feet sizes.  
One of the main questions are customers ask us is “what is the difference between continuous and strobe lighting?” Continuous lighting uses a constant light source to light your subject, meaning that your lights will stay on during the entirety of your photo shoot. Continuous lighting is recommended for beginners. Strobe lighting uses a flash of light at the moment your camera shutter opens to illuminate your subject. Many professionals use this type of lighting because it offers more control of the light.
This was a great value for the price. The backdrops photograph well, the lights are great and the stand is good. The stand didn't come with instructions to put it together, but wasn't too difficult to figure out. The backdrops did come with some wrinkles from being folded for shipping, but I have them rolled up together on a wrapping paper roll and they seem to be much better (and I haven't even ironed them yet.) I would recommend this product, especially for beginners like myself.

To start constructing this DIY backdrop, measure how thick your elbow is compared to your curtain rod, and add electrical tape around the end of the rod until you have a tight fit. For most people, it will be easier to put a little bit of tape on at a time, testing the fit every so often until it’s snug, but measurements can give you a good base to start with. Don’t attach the rod to the elbow yet, however.
Nice strong clamp. Seems well made for an inexpensive gadget. Very handy addition to the things you can mount a camera to when either you don't have a tripod or the tripod just won't work. I have not tried it with the SLR but should hold well unless the camera is quite large or with a long heavy lens. Probably best with P&S or the smaller SLR & lenses.
Get an austere rustic look with Background Town’s Wall Yellow. It’s available in two materials. NewFab is a tear resistant “paper-like” substrate that’s wrinkle resistant and won’t reflect light. It’s sold in 3.9 x 5-foot and 5 x 6.8-foot sizes. NewFab backdrops won’t come with rod pockets and aren’t machine washable. If you need a backdrop with those attributes, spring for Background Town’s UltraCloth material, a machine-washable backdrop that’s wrinkle-free and has rod pockets sewn in. It’s sold in sizes ranging from 6 x 8 to 8 x 12 feet.
There are a few things to consider when choosing a backdrop size, including the size of your studio and the size of your subject. Portrait subjects should typically be pulled at least 3’ away from your backdrop to prevent shadows and allow for easy lighting. Of course, this distance your subject will be from the backdrop will be altered when taking overhead or backlit/high key shots. Great backdrop! I had been looking for a hand painted backdrop but had found that most of them were far too expensive for my budget. Some of the more expensive backdrops also appeared to have far too many design and color variations for my needs. This backdrop is excellent quality and the color is perfect! The slight variations between dark and light gray look lovely in my images.
