The picture posted here is definitely deceiving, but overall I am happy with the product. I don't know how the photographer edited and/or modified the print in the listing to have the "depth" of the floor like that. I have two pictures that I will submit to show what I received - these are UN-EDITED photos (not run through Photoshop, only added my name to the bottom). I ended up using a floor cloth, as you can clearly see in the image. If the photographer used a separate floor cloth to achieve the extended "brick" look, I could understand it, but as the photo stands it is very deceiving. Obviously there were some adjustments made to bring out the colors in the background too. I can easily achieve the same "rich" colors in Photoshop or some other similar photo editing program.

This is one of the best purchases I've made! I have a Talk Show and wanted good lighting and a place for my banner without spending hundreds of dollars. Well this was it! The stand where you hang your back drop, extends. It can go extremely wide or small enough to hang a small banner for an event. Same thing with the length. It can go as high as 6/7ft and as low as 2/3ft. Everything came new, nothing broke, everything worked. All four light stands can raise high or go low. For people using this for photography I strongly recommend getting some brighter light bulbs. This would be my only issue and recommendation. The bulbs are not bright enough at all. Its ok for the mean time or if you don't really need bright lights. It's amazing how this entire set up can be broken down quickly and all packed into a large, black, gym bag looking thingy that it comes in (of course inside the delivery box). I've had it for about a year and have taken it down atleast twice. My daughter and I put it back together when we moved in about 20 min or less. It comes with 4 light stands, 2 with umbrellas & 2 with the square light covers, 2 light covers, 1 backdrop stand, 3 sheets (black, green, white), 4 light bulbs, 3/4 clips for sheets & large black gym bag. Highly Recommend!

In this SOOC shot, you can see just how down and dirty this setup was. The backdrop is not pulled out very far and taped down only in a couple of spots. In the top left edge of the image you can see the corner of the 50 inch Apollo. This also shows that the right edge of the light is hitting the subject, allowing for a soft feathered look, but more importantly for this setup, it's allowing the rest of the box to light our background.
They are plastic, but very strong and the clamping power is quite good. The only annoyance is the little red pads on the end, swivel all the way around so if you are trying to attach something up high with one hand, sometimes they flip backwards and don't grab correctly. So why only 4 stars and not 5? I personally don't like the very top of the backdrop. If you look at the pictures carefully (I don't know if you can actually see this because I tried to crop these out), it looks like there are ceiling lights on a dark alley street. Scientifically, that's impossible and realistically, it looks WEIRD. But other than that, it's near perfect for what you're paying for.
The package arrived in a Manila folder therefore had lot of creases. I follow the instructions and ironed it and as you can see in the photos the creases diminished greatly. My husband made a 2x4 frame for it with wood already available as we do no have a photographer stand. It came out lovely. I can’t wait for the final result as the date arrives. Well worth the money! Not the greatest quality of material but it’s also not bad for what’s intended for.
What this tells us is that the further away the light source is from the subject and backdrop, the more likely we are to get an equal exposure from one to the other. The quality of the light source can also change with distance. You will notice that as the light gets further away it becomes a harder light with less transitional values. Also, if the subject appears to be further away from the backdrop in the last image, it's due to me needing to use a shorter focal length (zoom out) to avoid getting the softbox in the shot. The shorter focal length exaggerates perspective.

For our session I tried to keep Mr. C about 3/4 of the way up from the lights on the wall and towards me (right around where you are seeing the garland and red ornaments in the above photo).  I was sitting only as far back from him as I had to, to get what I wanted of him in the frame (keeping in mind the three criteria above).  Using the garland and ornaments for props helped because he just played with them wherever I set them down.

To start constructing this DIY backdrop, measure how thick your elbow is compared to your curtain rod, and add electrical tape around the end of the rod until you have a tight fit. In the shot above I used a two light setup. The main light, camera left, is a Profoto D1 1,000Ws head inside of a 50 inch Westcott Apollo Softbox. While the idea of mixing what is considered to be a high-end strobe with a budget softbox my not sit right with some, I find the indirect lighting source from a Westcott or Photek to give a really nice and even light. The 60 inch Photek Softlighter, which I also enjoy using, may only cost $95 but gives a really nice, soft, and even light. If these lower cost indirect sources are good enough for the likes of Mario Testino and Annie Leibovitz, then they are good enough for me. We had so much fun on Christmas with this backdrop and the accessories. We had an ugly Christmas sweater dinner and we took so many photos using this. It was like an ongoing photo session. The back drop is very sturdy and was put up for the next holiday season. I used a hot glue gun to attach the sticks to the props rather than using the tape strips that were included.

When it comes to special effect backgrounds, the chroma key backdrops are the most common used in tandem with special effects. When I received this it was folded down to 1'x6" package. After unfolding it, every fold line is very visible. Also the interior lights on top are part of the drop. This is an old time type of backdrop that depicts like a French street in late 1800 to early 1900 why there is a interior ceiling with lights on the top of this backdrop is in my opinion stupid. Also the seams should have been glued in a downward overlay application. Instead they are in a upward application which makes the top of the seam fold down exposing the white backside of the drop. Avoid. And by something that is actually cloth and not vinyl.

With a 20 or 24-foot long backdrop you’ll be able to cover just about every style of portraiture and product photography.
